World Music Day 2020 has never been more important if the upsurge in musicians’ contacting our agency with inspirational stories and covid-19 lockdown created songs is anything to go by. It is not just artists like the astonishing prog composer Mustafa Khetty who has been reaching out to musicians remotely to complete his epic project under the guise ‘Morpheus’ – https://www.morpheusmusica.com – but a range of musical genres from punk to folk all across the world helping to bring positive messages to those in fear during this period of isolation.
With World Music Day celebrating the importance of all styles of music, it must also be remembered the huge mental issues being tackled by artists across the globe. The creative world musicians occupy is also fraught with solitude, introspective thinking and hence the onset of depression for example but what we have seen is them fighting against this and trying to bring hope to others. We are additionally in the middle of Loneliness Awareness Week which again should help us focus and think of the plight our musician friends encounter , but together we aim to offset the negative and just as a team work through all the positives things that music brings to the world.
In our own personal way as a music marketing agency we are regularly discussing the artists who have helped our staff through these troubled times, from the likes of Cadet whose life as you may know was tragically cut short and the amazing Sufjan Stevens and his wonderful track The Only Thing taken from the glorious Carrie and Lowell album, whilst personally I have reached out to the safety net of favourites like Bowie and his Low album , then ELO to pick me up , plus wallowing in the beauty of The Eagles especially as I was lucky enough to work briefly with Glenn Frey.
So before I wander off to far down memory lane let’s just stop there and wish you all a peaceful and productive time and do give your support to those helping us through these dark times on World Music Day 2020.
