Having run Quite Great Marketing and Promotion for many years overseeing clients ranging from gadgets to mobile apps, retailers to food and drink brands, we spend a great deal of time working out how to focus on a market and direct a simple to understand message in order to drive sales, recently we spent some time going through information and books relating to marketing when we were on a course at The Ashridge Business School and it surprised me that even with the growth in online and related marketing methods that visualise the general public acting as one in a cyber environment certain tips still hold true.
I) Adapt your marketing approach yearly as the same plan rarely works every year. The most important aspect of marketing is always to understand your customer’s needs and hence for you to be responsive to those needs.
II) One common goal should always be adhered to and that is, to serve the customer. This, therefore, needs a far-sighted strategy, market analysis and planning.
III) Customer loyalty is King. Maintaining loyal customers in an ever-changing market with new competitors –especially in the realm of online – has to be the primary aim of any business.
IV) The Four P’s in marketing still hold true- Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
V) The next most vital letter to remember and always account for is D, and that D stands for Distribution.
VI) Planning is all about the long term, but the long term changes daily hence keep close contact with your suppliers, with your customers and also the related media as they can help highlight market trends that you can capitalise on.
VII) Always look to the White Space, to look beyond your product to what other opportunities may arise from it in the future.
VIII) Understand your competitors but do not focus too heavily on them as you can spend more time trying to second guess them instead of improving your own product and business methods.
IX) It is easy to decide upon a budget but much harder to stick to it.
X) Market research is vital if you believe that the fundamental strength of marketing is customer understanding and awareness.
The Quite Great brand marketing and PR team love working with developing brands and it is perhaps the most exciting thing to help an entrepreneur to take an idea into the mainstream and grow success. Our motto is ‘teamwork makes everything possible‘ and in order to develop this, market awareness is key.
