At Quite Great PR we are forever working with wonderful musicians and creative artists of all kinds, so being a lover of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison I was so excited when I was asked to write about The Beatles Live in Peru.
I then realised that I had misunderstood and in-fact I was about to discover the world of the rock n roll style photographer David Hicks and embark on a journey through his lens of some of the coolest images of classic Volkswagen Beetles all taken during his globetrotting time being a travel photographer looking at ‘Lonely Planet‘ style tourist guide images in Peru whilst drawing upon his love of VW Beatles.
You cannot get more of an iconic car, in my opinion, than the Volkswagen Beetle Classic Car, which underlined it’s rock n roll heritage by being featured on the cover of The Beatles definitive Abbey Road album.
Whether the photographer David Hicks was thinking about the legendary album cover I will never know but what his wonderfully eye-catching collection of images made me feel was a desire to go backpacking in Peru, and seek out the world that he was so beautifully imprinting on my imagination.
I have to say I could not stop scanning through his images and wondering about the stories behind the photos, which I guess is why David’s work is so enchanting as it takes you into a world underlining to me that true art does not have to be found in a painting but art can actually be represented in photography.
When I saw David Hicks Photograph crushed VW bumper or his bright red perfect Beetle parked directly in front of what I assume to be a Peruvian man sitting just watching the world go by, it made me think about not just the cars but the stories that were taking place around each image. Drawing me back to my thoughts of taking a road trip across South America and creating some stories of my own although my images would naturally be far less professional and taken on my trusty Iphone11.
