Nothing can stop the imagination and our constant need and desire to feed it with art & culture. So in 2021, regardless of certain setbacks there are some very exciting shows to look out for and looking at the positives the online accessibility is now so much better that we can probably enjoy even more shows than ever, from the comfort of our homes, but soon enough we will all be back, better than ever enjoying our art in the flesh.
Some highlights on the horizon must include the Art of Banksy, the unauthorized Private Collection, opening March 25th 2021 for a limited time, Art of Banksy, in Covent Garden. This show features pieces from private collections mostly dated between 1997 to 2008, a period which saw some of Banksy’s most memorable works, including ‘Girl and Balloon’, ‘Flower Thrower’ and ‘Rude Copper’.
Then let us indulge in thoughts of Spring and the excitement of those first snowdrops now peeping up and move to David Hockney with The Arrival of Spring, Normandy 2020, Royal Academy 27th March -22nd August 2021. Who does not want to get lost in Hockney’s beautiful scenes of the Normandy countryside, captured last March? These scenes created on Hockney’s ipad, a series of 116 works, were ‘painted’ on his ipad and then printed. They will be blown up so we can enjoy the beauty and hope of spring in this master’s work, detailing every stoke and depth of colour. Also super excited for the Infinity Mirror Rooms with Yayoi Kusama at the Tate Modern 29th 2021 -27th March 2022. This unique exhibition takes us into Kusama’s mirror room installations and is one of her largest installations to date and promises to be an amazing experience.
There are so many great exhibitions and events that are planned and waiting for us to enjoy, so book them in and let’s look forward to a beautiful Spring of Art!
Many exhibitions will be subject to Covid-19 restrictions—please check on the respective museum website before visiting.
