The Cambridge Folk festival is perhaps one of the most iconic boutique events on the yearly festival circuit in the UK and it’s back. It is one of the oldest folk festivals in the world, held every year since 1965, apart from the pandemic lockdown, with a huge and loyal following and now attracting around 14,000 people each year. Situated in Cherry Hinton Hall about three miles out of Cambridge the event is renowned for being family friendly and attracting legendary acts across both Country, Roots, and Folk.
At Quite Great we are lucky to be based only a stone’s throw from the festival and lucky enough to have represented an array of country stars and icons of folk at the festival, as great supporters of emerging talent in the music industry it is events like this that we are so proud to have such a close connection with.
When Quite Great was established in 1996, one of our founder members was working at major labels, who were at the epicentre of what was then New Country, hence interacting on campaigns for the likes of Steve Earle, Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, through to blues and roots ‘gods’ like BB King and traditional country artists like Glenn Campbell and George Strait. This year the festival welcomes some great acts from the Gypsy Kings, Passenger and Suzanne Vega to Billy Bragg.
The Cambridge Folk Festival embraces all the elements we need as a society at present, bringing together people who love music and the arts , enjoying great family and friend’s good times, whether camping for the weekend or just going for the day, it’s always a friendly music filled event . It has won several awards over the years, including the BBC Radio 2 Good Tradition Award and the Greener Festival Award. There are no better memories at the Festival than the thrill of hearing opening bars to songs such as ‘American Pie’ , that transport you back and this is why at Quite Great we regard the Festival as one of the most precious of all the music events in the UK. We hope it continues for many years to come and that anyone reading this will at some stage have the chance to attend and enjoy all this long weekend festival from Friday 28th July to Monday 31st July, has to offer, which we have enjoyed for so many years.
Festivals are so important, especially after the challenging times we’ve all had. They give us a chance to let our hair down and truly relax with like minded friends, appreciating music, arts and our wonderful countryside and nature. They also making us more and more aware of how we can be environmentally aware, promoting recycling, reducing plastic waste, sharing transport, with car and lift share – these gentle reminders help us all., this is something the Cambridge Folk Festival has been awarded for.
