Chancellor Rishi Sunak announces his new Budget tomorrow (3rd March), but is it too little too late for the desperately struggling Arts sector?
Many industries are of course, anxiously awaiting the budget announcement to find out if they will be receiving some much needed support.
Perhaps one of those most anxious and truly on the edge of their seats, is the Art and Culture sector.
Devastated by the global pandemic, the Arts have fought a hard battle over the last year; a constant struggle to not only keep arts and music alive but to help motivate their fans across the world with their creativity.
Mr Sunak is expected to announce a sum of £408 million for museums, theatres and galleries in England to help them reopen when Covid restrictions ease, #Budget2021.
But will this be enough? Is £408 million sufficient support for an industry that has suffered so much, and has a rather uncertain future ahead. Not only the uncertainty of when gigs, events, exhibitions will re-open but who will want to go? Rumours of over 50’s concerts being the most popular as they will all be vaccinated…times are most definitely changing!
Exhibitions, galleries, artists and creators have been working hard to stay afloat in relentless rocky waters with little to no support. A feat that deserves commendation, as The Arts have continued to innovate despite circumstance and lack of government support.
Innovating in desperate times, a rise in virtual galleries and online exhibitions has been seen across the Art sector.
Online exhibitions and Virtual galleries have provided a welcome distraction and relief to Art consumers across the country. Whilst certainly not ideal for artists, galleries or fans virtual exhibitions have brought us the joy of art in a time when we need it most.
It feels more important now, than ever before, to be supporting our hard working artists across the creative fields in these tough times.
If you’re looking for some more great online exhibitions then look no further, artist Dmitry Artyukhin has his works exhibited on Contemporary Art Curator Magazine and #SHAPEOFTHENEW, a virtual exhibition exploring artistic responses to global issues featuring talented artists such as Brian Parker – Painter and Visual Artist UK.
