Social media is a big part of what we do here at Quite Great. In some ways, it is another form of PR that if you get right, can lead to huge followings and a ton of exposure on some of the most relevant and profile boosting platforms currently available in the world.
What many people assume, and actually misunderstand, is that quantity is not necessarily the key to success – you don’t have to post something every single day. Of course, don’t leave your social media profiles lying dormant for months on end, as this will be detrimental to you, but focus on creating original, personal content that aims to engage and entertain – don’t just post things because you feel like you haven’t in a while.
This ties in with our three pillars of social media that you should remember when posting. You should always aim to do one of the following things:
- Document
- Entertain
- Educate
Your content doesn’t have to do all three at the same time, but focusing on at least one of these will provide the path to successful social media content!
However, these options won’t necessarily suit everyone’s style or social media personality. For example, unless you consider yourself a particularly entertaining and amusing person, or have the skills to teach people something, then Quite Great would always recommend going with the document option.
This is by far the easiest of the three that anyone can find success with, but remember, the beginning of every journey is exciting and full of ambitions because there is a long road ahead. These are the times that might seem menial or lacking in relevance, but on the chance that your band is a worldwide success, you’ll wish that you had documented the humble beginnings, before you were rock stars living the high life.
One way that you could do this is by creating an ongoing video diary. Get every member of the band involved so that fans can gain an insight into all the characters that make up your ‘team’. Film every day and put the footage into a short movie at the end of the week. This way, your followers can join you on your journey and keep up to date with your regular installments.
Try to explain to your followers:
- What you would like to achieve
- Then show them it happening
- Review on what happened and how afterwards
One of the best things you can do with your content is to remind your users where you have come from, what’s happening right now and where you are going next. This is the reason why so many people continue to watch reality TV; there’s a journey to follow. An understanding is developed of each personality and anything can happen. Unpredictability is your friend when it comes to social media – remember, there’s been no successful films with a plot where nothing ever goes wrong for the characters – this is why we watch them!
Hopefully, this will help you when it comes creating your content and you can finally stop sharing videos of cats falling off shelves. For more social media and pr tips, check out our Youtube channel Quite Great TV
